An Improved Method of Noise Subtraction for the CFOSAT Scatterometer

The microwave scatterometer onboard the China-France Oceanography Satellite (CFOSAT Scatterometer, CSCAT) is first rotating fan-beam (RFSCAT) in operation. It used to obtain ocean surface wind field by measuring backscattering coefficient over a large observation swath. To estimate coefficient, needs measure scattered signal accurately. process of removing noise from echo (scattered plus noise) called subtraction. Noise subtraction has great influence on measurement and subsequent retrieval. Therefore, accurate necessary important. In this article, an improved method for CSCAT proposed. According distribution characteristics coefficients, correction factors are introduced improve CSCAT. fields obtained using data, deviation speed direction calculated comparison with European Centre Medium Range Weather Forecasts fields. results show that can lead improvement quality effectively. addition, based subtraction, estimating factor proposed at incidence angle, furtherly improving method. effective.
